Year 6 Home Learning

Please ensure you check back here frequently to find updates from your child's class teacher for learning that should be completed at home.

While your child is working from home, here is a suggested overview/daily routine, to support you in planning out your child's day.

Communication

Please ensure you have access to your child's Class Dojo account. This will be your direct line to your child's class teacher, during the school's closure, where you can directly message them for information or advice on any of the home learning sent home for pupils.

We will also send frequent updates out via Parent Hub. Please keep checking on these daily.

Reading Aloud Time - On the Class Story part of Class Dojo, you child's class teacher will be uploading the next part of the class novel on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays at 6pm. Check it out.

DfE and BBC Bitesize Daily Lessons

The Department for Education have worked with the BBC to provide daily online lessons for every year group. These can be accessed by clicking on the link and choosing your child's year group

Here you'll find daily lessons for homeschooling in Maths and English for every year group, as well as regular lessons in Science, History, Geography and more.

Daily Live Lessons

The following websites/links are offering daily lessons for your child to access.

 

9 a.m. (daily) - P.E.with Joe Wicks - The Body Coach TV - The fitness coach (Joe Wicks) is doing a live, daily P.E workout from his Youtube page every morning at 9am. 

 

9:30am (daily) - Wildlife with Steve Backshall - The wildlife expert (Steve Backshall) is doing a live, daily wildlife Q&A covering a range of topics including wildlife, biology, conservation, geography and exploration. 

 

11 a.m. (daily) - Storytime with David Walliams - Elevenses - The popular children's author and comedian (David Walliams) will be reading a story from his World's Worst series every day at 11 am - this is not to be missed!

11:30 a.m. (daily) - Dancing with Oti Mabuse - For something slightly different, the Strictly Come Dancing pro will be doing live, daily dance workouts from her social media channels at 11:30am daily. The lessons will even take place during the weekends ranging from themes, such as, jungle to High School Musical.

Ongoing Learning at Home Ideas

The following websites/links have some incredibly useful ongoing learning activities that can be completed during your child's time at home.

 

Wellbeing & Mindfulness Pack - This pack contains a range of mindfulness and wellbeing activities to be completed at home during the school closures. On the back page, there are also links to a range of agencies for support with mental health. 

 

The Maths Factor - Let Carol Voderman teach your child Maths. This is a free website to support childrens' continued learning at home.

 

Times Table Rockstars - Your child will have an individual login to access this. Please message your child's class teacher if they need a reminder of their login.

 

Amazon Audible - Amazon Audible Stories, aimed at younger audiences, have made their books available at no cost for as long as necessary while schools are closed. They have a range of children's stories that are available to listen to on a laptop, desktop, smartphone or tablet. 

 

Classroom Secrets Learning Packs - These packs are split into different year groups and include a range of activities linked to reading, writing, maths and practical ideas you can do around the home.

 

Twinkl - To access these resources click on the link and sign up using your own email address and create your own password. Use the offer code UKTWINKLHELPS to access all of the resources for free.

 

Scholastic - Scholastic are offering free resource packs for Lower/Upper Key Stage 2 with a range of lessons in English and Maths. These can be accessed by creating a free account.

 

Headteacherchat - This is a blog that has links to various learning platforms. Lots of these​ are free to access.

 

DfE Online Educational Resources - The Department for Education have published an initial list of online educational resources that can be used at home.
