Transition 2020/21

In these uncertain times, post COVID-19, we understand that many parents will have many worries about returning to school in September. We have designed this page to hopefully help everyone, reduce anxieties for children and parents and answer as many questions as possible.

On this page, you will find the whole school transition plan for the following groups:

  • Children moving to their new year groups in September (Year 4, 5 and 6)
  • Children moving from Year 2 to Year 3

Our Whole School Transition Plan for September

As many of you may know, our school has been partially closed since March 2020, we have always remained open for key worker children and those that needed us the most, but for the majority of children, we have been providing home school support.

On June 1st we began our partial re-opening and opened school to a number of 'bubbles' for more key worker children and those children we felt would most benefit from our support. The following weeks saw us provide education for around 90 children in school.

By September 1st, we are hoping we can open to the majority of children, unless the government change the guidance over the summer. These plans will always be fluid and we will continue to keep you up-to-date with the latest plans via Parent Hub or Class Dojo. We live in changing times at present and so the school will need to be responsive to the guidance set for us by the government.

Wider re-opening

We have included a list of the proposed dates for the academic year 20/21.

  1. The staff in school will return on 1st September for an INSET Day (this is one day earlier than expected).
  2. This allows children to return to school on the 2nd September 2020.
  3. This means we will break up one day early in July 2021, on Wednesday 21st July.
  4. The five INSET days will now be: 1st September, 23rd October, 2nd November, 4th January and 1st February (these are the same at Bolsover Infant and Nursery School).

Transition Plan

On  the 2nd September, every child will return to school.

Our new Year 4, 5 and 6 children will begin the term with us for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th of September. Our new Year 3 pupils, will begin the term back in their previous classes at the Infants, in their junior school red uniform, for these three days (see the following page for further information about our Year 2 Transition package).

Every child will return to the class they are in now, with the teacher they have now, with the children they should be with now. This will allow us to finish the 2019-20 academic year as we planned to, support the children back into school and prepare them for transition. Every class will be taught by their original class teachers from this year for those three days.

We believe this will give everyone a chance for closure, the opportunity to end the year positively and a chance for a positive transition into the next phase of learning.

On Monday 7th September, all of our pupils will start with their new class teachers in their new classrooms. This is when we will welcome our new Year 3 pupils to begin with us.
