Interventions

At Bolsover Church of England Junior School while learning at home, it is our aim to ensure that your child's interventions are ongoing.

Interventions can be carried out using Zoom in breakout rooms or in small groups, in packs sent home or virtually with other professionals such as SSSEN.

Building Brick Therapy

Building brick therapy is an evidence-based intervention that has been developed to support pupils to engage in positive interactions with peers.

If your child is taking part in this, your class teacher will have arranged for sessions either via Zoom or have provided you with resources to carry out in the home.

Anger Gremlin

Based on cognitive behavioural principles, this intervention uses fun and engaging activities to teach children how to manage their anger by changing how they think and act – getting rid of their Anger Gremlins for good!

This intervention is a 1:1 intervention and your class teacher will arrange the sessions via Zoom.

Anxiety Gremlin

The Anxiety Gremlin is a mischievous creature who loves to gobble up your anxious feelings! The more anxiety you feed him, the bigger and bigger he gets and the more and more anxious you feel! How can you stop this? Starve your Anxiety Gremlin of anxious thoughts, feelings and behaviours, and watch him shrink! Based on cognitive behavioural principles, this interventions uses fun and imaginative activities to teach children how to manage their anxiety by changing how they think and act.

Speech and Language Therapy

Some pupils have a Speech and Language Therapy Programme from SaLT based at The Royal Hospital. These sessions are carried out in school by our Teaching Assistants. If you child has Speech and Language Therapy, your teacher will have been in touch to organised Zoom sessions or provide information and resources for home.

Read Write Inc

Read Write Inc. Phonics teaches children to read accurately and fluently with good comprehension. They learn to form each letter, spell correctly, and compose their ideas step-by-step.

This intervention is carried out in BEAR time and is done in breakout rooms with small groups on the VTP.

Toe-by-Toe

Toe By Toe is a small red book designed for anyone who finds reading difficult. This includes weak readers who struggle to decode or those with dyslexic difficulties. This intervention is carried out daily with a Teaching Assistant 1:1.

Fine and Gross Motor Skills

Gross motor skills pertain to skills involving large muscle movements, such as independent sitting, crawling, walking, or running. Fine motor skills involve use of smaller muscles, such as grasping, object manipulation, or drawing. Interventions are carried out in small groups as well as individually.

1:1 Reading

These sessions happen over Zoom with Teachers and Teaching Assistants. The children can also record them selves reading and send it to the teacher if they are too shy to come on to Zoom.

Children have access to MyOn, Accelerated Reader and Oxford Owl. Click on the picture to take you to our Virtual Reading Page.

Write from the Start

This intervention offers an approach to handwriting which develops the muscles of the hand. It includes exercises and activities to develop hand-eye co-ordination, form constancy, spatial organization, figure-ground discrimination and orientation and laterality.

Memory Games

Playing memory games can improve other brain functions, such as attention, concentration, and focus. Memory games give space to critical thinking and that helps children nurture their attention to detail. Memory games can improve visual recognition. A good short-term memory can improve a person's long-term memory too.

Nurture - The Robin Room

A nurture group is inclusive early intervention and prevention for the development of social, emotional and behavioural difficulties within a mainstream setting. It is also a provision in which the day is one of carefully structured routines providing a balance of learning, teaching,
affection and structure within a homelike environment. It is also a group in which children are placed not due to their limitations with regard to ability, but simply because they have missed out on early experiences that promote good development – particularly in the areas of social, emotional and behavioural skills.

If you child takes part in Nurture, our Nurture Lead will contact you with daily Zoom sessions.

Drawing and Talking

Drawing and Talking provides a highly effective person-centred therapeutic play-work approach, this tier 1-2 intervention is intended to complement rather than replace the work of CAMHS, art or other specialist therapists; enabling children who would otherwise go untreated to get the help they need before problems become entrenched.
